Beatrix Potter’s 155th Birthday

Beatrix Potter ScientistHappy Birthday Beatrix Potter!

On 28 July The Beatrix Potter Society celebrated the 155th anniversary of Beatrix’s birth by holding a Zoom interview with children’s author Lindsay H. Metcalf. Her book, Beatrix Potter, Scientist, was published in 2020. Lindsay Moen, Secretary for the Society and Public Services Librarian at the University of Iowa Special Collections and Archives, facilitated the interview assisted by her young friend River. We learned about the process of conceptualizing and researching the book, and we discussed how Beatrix has inspired so many young girls to become interested in science.

Members of the Society often recognize 28 July by hosting informal local gatherings of Members and friends. However, this year’s use of Zoom allowed us to simultaneously engage with 84 people from nine countries. Several Members were joined by their children or grandchildren.

The event was recorded so if you missed it or would like to enjoy it again, you can click below to see the video.
