We do our best to accommodate Members from everywhere, and offer numerous remote events each year, such as our hybrid AGM, our annual Beatrix Potter Birthday Zoom event, and our annual holiday Festive Quiz.

As a Member, you also receive three issues annually of the Society’s full-colour Journal and Newsletter, as well as periodic updates sent via email and post. Our website has exclusive content, and you are also able to join our Member’s Only Facebook page.

Value & Authentication of Beatrix Potter Materials

The Beatrix Potter Society is a charity, run by Beatrix Potter enthusiasts and experts who are all volunteers.  Although we are willing to look at materials and to offer an opinion or advice, we are not in a position to authenticate items.

Please bear in mind when seeking both authentication and valuation that the provenance of your item is of the utmost importance and is sometimes the only way to guard against forgeries that are circulating on the market.  Please also note that for liability purposes our opinions should not be used for formal authentication or valuation of the materials.

No. The Beatrix Potter Society is a charity, run by Beatrix Potter enthusiasts and experts who are all volunteers.   Although we are willing to look at materials and to offer an opinion or advice, we are unable to offer valuations.

When seeking valuations, we would advise contacting any auctioneers or dealers who have dealt with Potter material in the past – this information is readily available through internet searches and would include specialist professionals as well as amateur collectors.  Such searches would also give you an idea of the value of similar works that have come on the market recently.

Please bear in mind when seeking both authentication and valuation that the provenance of your item is of the utmost importance and is sometimes the only way to guard against forgeries that are circulating on the market.  Please also note that for liability purposes our opinions should not be used for formal valuation or authentification of the materials.

We would advise contacting auction houses and dealers known to handle original Beatrix Potter works or books.  Information about them is readily available through the internet.  Also, such items rarely come up for sale, so they are often well reported in advance, both in the press and on social media.

Thank you very much for thinking of the Beatrix Potter Society! If you are a BPS Member, we are happy to advertise the selling or donation of your collection materials in our J&N for a negotiated donation to the Society.

If you are not a Member, we suggest reaching out to your local auction house, antique store, second-hand book shop or charity shop to assist you with selling or appraising your materials. You are also welcome to contact us to start a conversation, but we may not be able to accept your materials.
