Hill Top House volunteer and longtime Beatrix Potter Society Member and past BPS Trustee, Kathy Cole, has some brought some of her furry critters to take up temporary residence at Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top house. Don’t worry – the artifacts are safe, as these critters are needle felted! This last winter, Kathy was asked to make needle felted mice and sheep for display at Hill Top that will be on display for the next two years. The mice are now tucked into 8 places throughout the house, reception area, and shop as part of ‘Mischief in Miniature’ – an activity that gives children the fun task of seeking for the mice in each room. This is all to celebrate the fabulous brand-new New Room exhibition on The Tale of Two Bad Mice, which recently opened.
Kathy’s 5 sheep are part of the new exhibition space in the Scullery, which is devoted to Beatrix as farmer and land conservationist. They are in the spice cabinet.
It’s not often that a member of the public and the Beatrix Potter Society has the opportunity to display their own artwork at Hill Top and add to the visitor experience. The Society is so proud of Kathy to have her creations on display. They add to the display and enhance the user experience!
Thank you to Kathy Cole for sharing this story with us and for providing the wonderful photos of her needle felting work!
