News from Hill Top: A Window Refresh

New seasons bring new home improvement projects, even at historical landmarks. Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House is no stranger to a little TLC to keep it in great shape for generations to come.  The large sash windows at Hill Top were in serious need of a fresh coat of paint before wintertime, and work on this important project commenced on a bright sunny morning in October.  Scaffolding was installed in front of the house, and wisteria vines were gently trimmed or moved aside.

The work is being done one room at a time in order to minimise disruption, and to ensure that visitors can still see as much as possible. The guest bedroom was the first space to be tackled. Staff moved and covered Beatrix’s furnishings, and painters erected a plastic ‘tent’ in front of the window to further protect the room from any possible damage.

By the end of day one, the white muntins and green trim in the guest bedroom were already much improved.  Much of the flaking paint had been scraped from the downstairs windows in order to prepare them to be painted.  The project is expected to take about a week. Stay tuned for updates and a photo of the fresh new face of Hill Top.
