These letters, brimming with amusing encounters and endearing creatures, eventually inspired Beatrix to devote herself to children’s literature

The group of picture letters reproduced in this book were donated to the Morgan Library (USA) in 1959 by the book collector and army colonel David McCandless McKell. The letters are stored today in the Morgan’s vault and continue to entertain visitors from around the world. This edition features an introduction by Philip S. Palmer, who is the Robert H. Taylor Curator and Department Head of Literary and Historical Manuscripts at the Morgan Library.
