Selwyn Goodacre’s book is a collection of previously published articles over the last 40 years or so – on a variety of subjects.

They include studies of Beatrix Potter’s humour, insights into the naming of her book characters, and an early account of the famous, mostly American, unauthorised editions of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. There are essays on research into the text of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books, the revelation of a previously unrecognised forgery of a Carroll pamphlet, and a study of Carroll’s illnesses (Selwyn is a retired Medical Practitioner).

Other articles include an account of coping with a medical emergency on a package plane holiday, and essays on books by Enid Blyton, Kate Douglas Wiggin, and other lesser-known Children’s Book authors. Other insights include the joy of entering village shows, and some original thoughts on the Cottingley Fairies. One review said that the book was a ‘jolly good read’.

The book as it is directly available from Selwyn Goodacre.
